3 must-see attractions in Arbatax

Things to see in Arbatax and the surrounding area

Arbatax, as well as the entire Tortolì area, features one of the most fascinating panoramas of the Mediterranean. Now famous thanks to its tourist harbor, this fishermen village still preserves all the features of a pristine territory, far removed from the frenzy of everyday life.

Here are 3 must-see attractions in Arbatax and the surrounding area:

1- The Rocce Rosse (Red Rocks)
The symbol of Arbatax, the famous red rocks are located near the small harbor, behind the Levante pier in the Port of Arbatax. Porphyry rocks arise from the sea, just as a true natural monument. This amazing location has been chosen for one of the most important events of the Sardinian summer, the “Rocce Rosse Blues Festival”.

2- The Tower of San Gemiliano
The Tower of San Gemiliano is located on the promontory of the same name, 42 meters above sea level. It was presumably built in 1639, during the Spanish era, and from its top you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the San Gemiliano Bay. Nearby, you can also find the country church dedicated to the very same Saint.

3- The cove of Cala Moresca
Cala Moresca is one of the most captivating beaches of Sardinia’s Eastern coast. It derives its name from the pirate raids carried out by the Saracens (‘Moors’) who have long frequented these coasts. Cala Moresca is a small jewel: red porphyry rocks, Mediterranean maquis, cream colored sand and crystal clear waters that grant unobstructed views of the sea bed.
